Battery and waste disposal

How do I recycle Shaper Products?

Our products are built with longevity and repairability in mind. If you experience any issue with any Shaper product, please refer to our Troubleshooting and Maintenance page or reach out to Shaper’s knowledgeable customer support team.

If you are no longer using your Shaper product, we encourage you to sell it or give it to a friend who would benefit from it, before you consider disposing of it.

After many years of use and after considering the above options, you can recycle Shaper products responsibly by dropping them off, at a recycling facility in your area. In particular, any products with electronic components, like Origin, should be disposed of in an certified e-recycling facility.

In accordance with the Battery and Electrical Equipment Act

What do I have to consider when disposing of electronic or electrical equipment?

We fulfill the obligations of the Electrical and Electronic Equipment Act (ElektroG) in Germany and would like to point out the following to all our customers:

Waste electrical and electronic equipment must not be disposed of in household waste. Consumers are obligated to ensure proper disposal separate from household waste.

To make this clear, since 2005 all newly marketed electrical and electronic products have been marked with the symbol of a crossed-out trash can as a visible sign of resource conservation and environmental protection.

You have the option of taking your old electrical and electronic equipment to a suitable collection point in the retail trade or in the municipality. In addition, you can also return your old equipment to our dispatch warehouse free of charge:

Please remove batteries and rechargeable batteries as far as possible and dispose of them as described under "Information on battery law". For devices with data storage, you are obligated to delete personal data.

How do I properly dispose of used batteries?

Since our shipments may contain batteries and rechargeable batteries, we are required by the Battery Act (BattG) to inform you that batteries and rechargeable batteries may not be disposed of in household waste. You are legally obligated to return used batteries and rechargeable batteries. Used batteries may contain harmful substances that can damage the environment or your health if not stored or disposed of properly. However, they also contain important raw materials (such as iron, zinc, manganese or nickel) and can be recycled. You have two options for disposing of used batteries: Either you return the batteries to us after use or you return them free of charge in the immediate vicinity (e.g. at retail outlets or municipal collection points). The return to sales outlets is limited to the usual quantities for end users and to those used batteries that the distributor has or has had in its range as new batteries.

Are Shaper Products RoHS/REACH/WEEE compliant?

Yes. Shaper works closely with all of the suppliers and factories in our supply chain to ensure the strict adherence of all of our parts, packaging, products, etc., to the latest RoHS and REACH standards. In brief, RoHS and REACH are regulations established by the European Union that aim to curb the use of harmful substances in manufacturing as well as in finished products. WEEE regulations set guidelines around responsible recycling and reduction of electronic waste. You can learn more about RoHS, REACH, and WEEE at the links below:

What is Prop65?

Depending on your location, you may have observed a “Prop65” label on your Shaper products. All Shaper products sold in North America are developed and labeled in accordance with California's Prop 65, officially known as the “Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act of 1986.” Prop65 “requires businesses to provide warnings to Californians about significant exposures to chemicals that cause cancer, birth defects or other reproductive harm.” The California Office for Environmental Health Hazards and Assessment publishes a list of materials that, if present in the product, means a Prop65 warning must be included with the product. As an example, Origin (like all electronic devices) includes nickel, a metal which appears on the Prop65 materials list. Origin also can be used in a manner which produces sawdust, another material on the Prop65 list. Shaper makes every attempt to use the safest and most sustainable possible construction and packaging for its products.
