Steam bending
Tim Kopetzki is a master carpenter and workshop manager at Winkler Holzbiegewerk in Switzerland – a third generation joinery fabricating a range of works from large scale exterior pieces, down to unique, organically shaped furniture for the home. As their website confidently states, “we bend solid wood into shape.”
Utilizing a range of tools from large scale mechanical fixtures for bending architectural millwork, to simply twisting steamed wood by hand, Tim walks us through the science behind steam bending and the process and considerations you need to make to be successful in your own shop.
